The Art of Simin Koernig

I was born in a sunny region of Germany and grew up in Bruehl by the river Rhein close to Heidelberg.
Thanks to my imaginative mother and grandfather, I have a kind of underlying creative impatience that is
driving me to change. I experienced this also in my youth, resulting me
changing hobbies frequently. They always encouraged me to let creativity flow.
So I indulged in painting, drawing, paper Mache, clay art, dough art, and photography I moved to
Chicago in 1996 where I flourished, unfolded and found myself and I’ve been here ever since, and
Chicago has become my second home. The craft of jewelry making was brought to me in 2000
through my dear friend Saraid who showed me how to use pliers and jewelry wire. I was fascinated and intrigued
at once and I knew I had to learn and master this magical craft. Designing Jewelry and following my senses
is a great joy for me. It calms my mind and it’s been the longest hobby I ever persuade. I filled my studio with lots of
stimulating material from all kinds of origins to feel surrounded by magical energy.
What helps me in defining a jewelry piece and the color combination is to just look around. I center my jewelry piece in the middle of my table and open
my eye and draw my inspirations from everything I see and feel by collection beads, shells, objects in different colors and schemes
around my new piece till it feel right and complete. Sometimes ideas just come to me and sometimes I need more stimulus to trigger the right combination.
Not every piece that I love makes it into a finished product because they just don’t feel right. They are lovely but they have not the right feel to
them yet and maybe never will. I keep them and sometimes they call for me and I find the right balance to make them feel right and perfect after all.
