The Art of Charles Moesch

Charles Moesch is a hyper- realistic, Chicago-based artist who has been painting and involved in artwork all his life.  Charles’ first exposure to art was watching his grandmother paint in her north side studio.  He honed his skills by studying graphic design at Eastern Illinois University.  Upon graduation in 1989, he owned and managed M&M Advertising in Glen Ellen, IL where he also acted as the Art Director for the firm. He moved away from advertising to pursue the fine arts in 2003.  He works in a hyper-realistic style which, in the art world, denotes “artwork that looks like a photograph”. He poses and photographs models, then inserts a sense of surrealism and fantasy into his pieces. He has explored a variety of subjects and techniques using dramatic lighting to create high contrasts for his desired look.

His philosophy for his artwork is to pay attention to the “small stuff”.  The accumulation of the small stuff is what gives the artwork mood and emotion.  “Never being satisfied is the angst that keeps me looking for the perfect painting, even though there is no such thing as a perfect painting, the constant pursuit of it is perfection.”

Charles has pieces hung all over the country, as well as, internationally in private collections.  He primarily shows in the Chicago-land area and has been published in Better Homes and Gardens as well as on book covers and album art.
